lyrics

All the homes we have kept in many distant lands
All of the candlelight we have gathered in our hands
What happens to these places when we have moved away?
Do they remember us as we remember them today?
Wait, I know what you’re thinking
Though it is late, and though we’ve been drinking
If you choose to revisit all those places over yonder
Then just be careful where you let your feet wander

There is a hallway connecting all abandoned homes
So that nothing abandoned is truly left alone
And if you walk that way, you may never make it back
So don’t dare lose your track

Through this door where the light is dim and low
The tenements we left behind so long ago
Now they stand empty, those not torn apart
The walls still hold a piece of beating heart
And through this door, an apartment just for you and I
Above the shop we tended, above the hue and cry
Now, what was home is gone to rot and to mold
The city came and finally took hold

(nigun)

There is a hallway connecting all abandoned homes
So that nothing abandoned is truly left alone
And if you walk that way, you may never make it back
Do you want to make it back?

Lead me to wander through your memories
Lead me through the stories of absent family
Dance me to the places you once used to go
Without you, I’ll never know

(crowd claps)

There was a hallway connecting all abandoned homes
So that nothing abandoned was ever left alone
Once upon a time, you and I walked down that way
And forever arm in arm we will stay
